Basic Simón Bolívar (1783-1830), referred to as El Liberator, and occasionally the "George Washington" of Latin the United States, was once the prime hero of the Latin American independence move. His victories over Spain received independence for Bolivia, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Bolívar grew to become Columbia's first president in 1819. In 1822, he grew to become dictator of Peru. top Peru turned a separate kingdom, which was once named Bolivia in Bolívar's honor, in 1825. The structure, which he drew up for Bolivia, is one among his most vital political pronouncements. this day he's remembered all through South the US, and in Venezuela and Bolivia his birthday is a countrywide holiday.

Although Bolívar by no means ready a scientific treatise, his essays, proclamations, and letters represent probably the most eloquent writing now not of the independence interval on my own, yet of any interval in Latin American historical past. His research of the region's primary difficulties, rules on political association and recommendations for Latin American integration are suitable and largely learn this day, even between Latin american citizens of all international locations and of all political persuasions. The "Cartagena Letter," the "Jamaica Letter," and the "Angostura Address," are broadly stated and reprinted.
