This ebook offers an in-depth advisor to femtocell technologies

In this booklet, the authors supply a finished and arranged rationalization of the femtocell techniques, structure, air interface applied sciences, and hard concerns coming up from the deployment of femtocells, comparable to interference, mobility administration and self-organization. The ebook information a method point simulation dependent method addressing the most important matters of femtocell deployment corresponding to interference among femto and macrocells, and the functionality of either femto and macrocell layers. additionally, key examine subject matters in interference modeling and mitigation, mobility administration and Self-Organizing community (SON) are highlighted. The authors additionally introduce HNB/HeNB standardization in 3GPP.. moreover, entry equipment (closed, open and hybrid), purposes, timing synchronization, overall healthiness matters, enterprise types and defense are mentioned. The authors additionally offer a comparability among femtocells and different indoor assurance ideas equivalent to picocells, repeaters, dispensed antenna structures and radio over fiber. finally, either CDMA and OFDMA dependent femtocells are covered.

Key Features:

  • Provides a accomplished reference on femtocells and similar issues
  • Offers the most recent learn effects on femtocells in accordance with simulation and measurements
  • Gives an outline of indoor assurance strategies reminiscent of picocells, repeaters, dispensed antenna platforms, radio over fiber and femtocells
  • Includes chapters on femtocell entry community structure, air interface applied sciences (GSM, UMTS, HSPA, WiMAX and LTE), femtocell simulation, interference research and mitigation in femto/macrocell networks, mobility administration in femto/macrocell networks, femtocell self-organization and different key demanding situations equivalent to timing synchronization and safeguard confronted through femtocell deployment

This tool will be used in the next chapters to provide some interesting results. Chapter 6 analyses the important problem of interference due to femtocells. The two main kinds of interference are described and discussed: interference between femtocell and macrocell called cross-layer, and interference between neighbouring femtocells called co-layer. Some interference cancellation and avoidance techniques will be presented. In femtocell networks, it is important to manage correctly the mobility of the users, so that they can hand over from the macro to the femto network.

For example, a GSM measurement campaign has been performed in [12] using an office environment and eight antennas. To cover this building made of two floors, four antennas per floor were used to give the homogeneous coverage. This results in a big increase in the capacity of the network due to better channel reuse between the different floors. In [13], a CDMA DAS in an office environment is also presented. It results, on average, in a decrease in power of more than 10 dB for the distributed antenna system (three nodes in this case).

This fact still applies today, because specific indoor solutions (that will be described in the next section) only started to be deployed over the last ten years. 1, a schematic view represents how indoor coverage is provided. Of course, the walls of the buildings, depending on the properties of its material, will attenuate more or less the signal. This is why operators had to find some solutions for increasing indoor coverage, which include adding new base stations, or modifying the existing ones.
