A very few of their priests have been Caucasian. Only a quarter have been Nisei. It was up to lay Nisei leaders to organize Sunday schools for Sansei (third-generation) youth. The Canadian-born (Nisei and Sansei) membership of the churches is upwardly mobile and tends to lack ethnic consciousness. Intermarriage rates among Sansei range from  percent in the rural west to  percent in Montreal.
